Chairman Ray Long Leading the Commission since 2010
Chairman Long oversees day-to-day operations of county government. Although his office is located at the courthouse, he is also responsible for overseeing departments, such as Environmental Services that are at offsite locations.

A major duty of the chairman is to manage the county’s overall budget, monitoring spending to make sure departments are staying within fiscal budgets. He presides over all County Commission meetings, which are held twice each month.

The chairman also represents Morgan County throughout the state and nationally. Chairman Long plays an active role with other entities in promoting the county to make it attractive for industrial and residential growth.

He and his wife Regina reside in Somerville, where he was mayor before becoming chairman of the commission. They have three children and four grandchildren.
